Radically Open DBT (or RO-DBT) is a relatively new type of skills-based psychological treatment for people who cope by over-controlling their emotions and actions. The scientific theory and evidence underpinning RO-DBT states that too much self-control leads to “disconnection” in relationships and subsequent longer-term mental health problems associated with chronic depression and/or anxiety, autism spectrum and eating disorder presentations.
RO-DBT is delivered as a combination of a weekly skills class in partnership with individual therapy sessions to monitor and address personal treatment goals. The therapy is completed in 30 weeks.
A diagnosis is not necessary to engage in RO-DBT however it is generally not indicated for issues related to Emotionally Unstable or Borderline personality presentations.
